Led Zeppelin; Laying Down Roots

Another iconic Rock group is Led Zeppelin. Formed in London, 1968, the original group consisted of a guitarist, bassist and keyboardist, drummer and singer. The group’s success really took off when a large record company recognized their potential.

The guitar heavy sound of Jimmy Page, mixed with blues roots and the iconic vocals of Robert Plant certainly made them stand out. When you add John Bonham’s insane drumming into the mix, it’s easy to see how they were recognized.

The group changed their name from the New Yardbirds to Led Zepplin and signed a record deal. This led to a widespread following, despite initial doubt and criticism of the group.

Their self titled albums feature some of their most iconic songs, including their fourth album which includes the classic “Stairway to Heaven”- one of the most popular rock songs of all time. Their six albums marked only the tip of the iceberg as their success carried them through the 70’s, with record breaking, sell out tours around the world.

Their sales are recorded at 200 to 300 million units which make them one of the top three U.S bands. Even more impressive; every single one of their studio albums debuted and remained on Billboard’s top 10, with six taking the top spot.

It goes without saying that with this kind of success, the band was welcomed with open arms into the Rock and Roll hall of fame. They were inducted in 1995 where they are paid tribute to as one of the most influential groups of the 70’s.

The band is well known across the world and their music is still popular. The group however has parted ways after one member passed away in the late 80’s. Despite this, their legacy lives on.
